Vineyards

Mount Pisgah is the 23rd AVA in Oregon and the 11th nested AVA inside the broader Willamette Valley AVA. At 5,530 acres, it is the second-smallest in the state in terms of area. with 584 acres under vine. Pinot noir makes up 70% of all vines planted on the mountain. Chardonnay and Pinot Gris make up 20% of the blend, with Viognier, Grüner Veltliner, and Tempranillo following closely behind. Mount Pisgah was formed 65 million years ago as a volcano on the floor of an inland sea and it has shallow soils that are rich with marine sediment.

  • Ash Creek Vineyards

Located along the lower end of a south-trending ridge off Mt. Pisgah, Ash Creek Vineyards has a predominantly southern exposure and a mix of soil types, with approximately 12 planted acres of winegrapes: seven acres of vines now approaching 25 years old, and five acres of more recent plantings.  We grow pinot noir, chardonnay, and dolcetto grapes, all made into wine by several local wineries.

Ash Creek Vineyards is part of a 53-acre farm that also includes 20 acres of mixed oak, vine maple, and cherrywood forest and another 15 acres of hay meadows and pasture.  Karl and Kathy Geier bought the property in 2011 and have been gradually retiring there ever since.  In addition to managing the vineyards, they keep busy maintaining the fields and trails, baling hay, looking after the resident animals, and generally enjoying a rural wine country lifestyle.

  • Croft Vineyards

In 1983 a couple from Alaska started a brand new adventure, growing grapes in Oregon. While still working on their respective careers in law and education, the desire to be with the earth, honor it, and coax something lovely from its soil became a serious goal. With a free-spirited entrepreneurial spirit, they investigated the Napa Valley and its northern counterpart, the Willamette Valley. Acreage in Monmouth, Oregon proved to be the best fit for the couple and the adventure began! There were some hilarious, frightening, and light-shedding missteps along the way, all leading to years of growth and discovery. Growth and discovery for their families, the extended clan of Croft supporters, and, of course, the grapes. When asked about the motivation behind difficult and progressive farming decisions, Founder Chancy Croft was known to reply, "It's about the grapes, 'cause all great wines start in the vineyard." In the end, it really is all about the grapes, isn't it?

  • Erratic Oaks - Citation Wines

Nestled up against the eastern edge of Oregon’s Coast Range, Erratic Oaks Vineyard was first planted in 2007 and has been producing grapes for us since 2009. Three-quarters of the vineyard’s total 200 acres of gently rolling, south and southwest facing hillside are planted to Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Riesling. This geographic orientation gives our grapes precious minutes of extra sunlight each day, as they grow to maturity.

Additionally, Erratic Oaks Vineyard is fortunate to have all three major soil types for which the Willamette Valley is acclaimed: Marine Sedimentary, Volcanic and Missoula Flood Sedimentary. The granite erratics that we found attest to the youngest soils, as the closest out cropping of such rocks is in Northern Idaho and Montana about 500 miles away!

  • Fern Creek Vineyard

    Fern Creek Vineyard

Owned and operated by NW Wine Company, Fern Creek is rooted along two adjacent south facing ridges. It embodies the exceptional qualities of the AVA’s unique terroir, with 71 acres currently in production and 94 acres under development. The vineyard showcases all the soils formed from ancient volcanic Siletz Rock with enrichment from marine sediments.— It is a dynamic landscape with excellent drainage and subtle site-induced stress that grows complex and intense wines.

The vineyard is farmed under the LIVE standard and is planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Gamay Noir. Sustainable farming practices ensure that the vineyard operates in harmony with the environment, preserving the integrity of the soil and the surrounding ecosystem for future generations.

  • Freedom Hill Vineyard

Freedom Hill Vineyard was established in 1981 and the first vines were planted in the spring of 1982. Today the vineyard is a 140 acre property with 92 acres currently developed with room for another handful that will be planted at a future date. In addition we recently acquired an adjoining 80 acres. We were the first vineyard in the neighborhood that now has nine vineyards and two wineries. Freedom Hill has the privilege of working with some of the state’s most notable and respected winemakers. We value long term relationships and delivering high quality fruit consistently to the crush pad.

We view our relationship with the land as enduring and reciprocal. We strive to be good stewards, believing that with thoughtful farming practices, the land will return its bounty for generations to come. We are a family farm with grandchildren now to be found sampling the grapes at harvest.

  • Illahe Vineyards

At Illahe, our goal is to grow and produce quality pinot noir and white wines that express the sense of place, vintage, and true varietal characteristics with minimal intervention. We work by hand on small lots with age-old techniques and materials. Some of our wines are made entirely by hand, with no electricity or modern mechanization. We utilize draft horses in the vineyard as well as a bicycle pump and destemmer to craft our 1899 Pinot Noir. Illahe is a sustainable, LIVE-certified, Salmon Safe, dry farmed vineyard, and a member of the Deep Roots Coalition.

Illahe’s main vineyard is on an 80-acre, south-facing slope that we first planted in 2000 with 22 acres of Pinot Noir. The vineyard now has 60 acres planted with seven varieties. Pinot noir accounts for 52 acres.

We also use estate fruit from Woodworth Vineyard on Mt. Pisgah a mile from the winery. It lies on Nekia soil, a deep volcanic soil from Siletz rock, and has pinot noir and chardonnay. In this prime grape-growing region, the majority of our vineyard lies on marine sediments atop ancient Siletz rock. A new 80-acre site next to Illahe is in development.

  • Mistletoe Vineyard

Nestled just outside of Dallas, Oregon, in the picturesque foothills of the Western Willamette Valley, our vineyard has been a labor of love since 1999.

After carefully preserving the most fertile plots for vineyard production, we planted the lower thirteen acres with the finest Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris varietals. In 2007, we expanded our production by adding another seven acres at a higher elevation, which features another premium soil type native to other renowned vineyards in the region, along with ideal Southwest-facing slopes of Mount Pisgah

As a family-owned vineyard located in Oregon's premier Willamette Valley, we are dedicated to growing the highest quality fruit.

  • Open Claim

In ways both observable and mysterious, soil, slope and surroundings write stories in our vineyard grapes and the wines they become.

Located just southeast of Dallas, Oregon, Open Claim’s 55-acre property nestles against the base of Mt. Pisgah, formed from submarine volcanoes that existed 50 million years ago. Here, marine sedimentary soils sit atop some of the oldest geological formations in the Willamette Valley, providing our vines access to a unique complex of minerals.

Mt. Pisgah buffers our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes from the winds that funnel through the Van Duzer Corridor into the valley. At our elevation, we hover above the frost danger that can occur as the colder, damp air drains down. The land tilts at a perfect 4-degree, south-facing slope to the sun, and morning fog provides whatever moisture winter rains forget.
